Little Triangles

Happy New Year dear friends!

One day I took my scrap boxes and started to separate…

Sadly the result was very poor. The box was full, but when sorted out, decent size scraps were so less. Most were crumbs and chips…but some of them started to speak to me…

Little triangles screamed: We may be small but we can do it! Take your white scraps and you’ll see!

So I did, and started to make the puzzle.

I was happy to find an important project, because these last days I couldn’t start anything. I have so many ideas going on in my mind but when I thought to start, they seemed to be purposeless.

little triangles

These, ‘useless’ littlest chips pushed me to start and I hope they lead me to improvising new year. This time I trim with scissors.

I have made extra design board. It’s a small board which I covered with piece of fleece. It can be on my sewing table, lean against the wall or I may hang it on the wall. If you don’t have space for design wall you can still make small design board. Use any board, wood or even carton. Or tape a piece of fleece or wadding on the door. Try, it makes big difference to see your design on the wall/board and not on the table.

Some of these little blocks are now on the board and some on the table…and there are still many little triangles waiting for white scraps.

Jayne at ‘Twiggy and Opal’ inspired me finally to start something with the littlest.  I admire her beautiful, unique work and fun writing. Thank you Jayne! I have also an other project going on, where I used idea from Jayne’s blocks…those half retangle blocks.

scandic scene

‘Scandic Scene’ is again on the design wall and in my thoughts. I have some ideas how to continue and hope to finish soon this quilt top to start the quilting.

Time to say Farewell 2015 and Welcome 2016! I think this is a good moment to move to a new address and to start a new chapter in ‘Nero’s Post and Patch: I was happy to see in the stats that many old posts are visited often again so I’m sure we shall meet now and then also here in my ‘old’ blog.

New Scandinavian quilt project

Hi Dear Friends! I have a NEW quilt in process! After making some space to my sewing room, I’m feeling a little bit better while starting again from “a clean table”.

my sewing room

Before starting I had to shower my NEW Fabrics. But before braking these cute bundles, I took few last shoots …

new fabrics

Fabric details:

Solids: ‘Scandinavia’ from Oakshott Fabrics (give away win from Leanne ‘She can Quilt’)

Prints: ‘Notting Hill’ from ring a roses by Gunther (give away win from Annett at ‘Knetty Craft’)

Light demin: present from Judith at ‘Just Jude’

And then off we go to the shower! And after that out for a sunbath …

Oakshott Fabrics are woven with two different colours of threads and look how the colour change when are wet!

I’m so happy that I got these two fabric bundles in same time – thank you again! Oakshott solids are gorgeus but I didn’t have any idea what Special I could make with them. I haven’t used much solids yet and also these beautiful light colours are different than my usual palet. When I looked these bundles together I realized that they match perfectly!

Once again seems to be that everything happens for some meaning … in a mood I am now, I couldn’t work with energy, bright, happy fabrics, so this calm, lightful, almost low volume collection is just what I need now. When looking for something else to add to this quilt, my eye picked the Honeycomb bundle that I had purchased while ago. I chose colours to match and left out orange/red/pink.

I had in my mind to use some low volumes for the background and made last evening test blocks …

retangle triangles

Looking for ideas from my Pinterest Board: ‘Quilt Inspiration’, I started to lean to triangles (once again, it’s my favourite quilting shape). As I don’t want to make a repeating pattern but some how different kind/size blocks, I thought these retangle triangles would be great. And I do like them a lot, but I didn’t enjoy making them.

retangle triangles

Other question is if I like the low volume for background? When leaving it like this at night, I wasn’t excited at all. Then at night I was thinking, once again, white is missing! Could you make a Scandinavian quilt without snow?! So in the morning I felt better because I knew how to continue: follow my instinct! When ever I don’t do that, it’s a big mistake!

triangle blocks

So white is on the table! From the prints I cut as big squares as possible by the meaning to get the most of these Special Fabrics. I shall make different kind of triangle blocks in different sizes. Most likely I shall use also those low volumes.

Some names in my mind: Scandic Scene, Scandinavian Days, Scandinavian Scale

And just for fun …

‘Hexy Cubes’ quilt top

Hello dear friends! I hope you are fine! Sometimes we end up with totally different project that the one we start. I’m sure that happens to you, too.

Hexagon Cubes quilt top

Saturday I started to plan something with Paper pieces …

It didn’t lead yet where I had planned. If I manage to continue that idea, I let you know. Piecing those little half of half triangles was very unpleasant, so I thought to try First with triangles.

I was happy to be able to use again my NEW Hex N More ruler! This quilt had a name before I started even later I chose an other name. I want to keep the First name for the other Project where I ‘need’ it more. But that’s why I started to pick greens and blues.

hexagons with triangles

First I throw the triangles randomly to my design wall (sorry, no photo of that) but very soon I saw there secondary pattern which I really liked: cubes. Long time I have wanted to make a quilt with cubes but didn’t have any idea on Saturday morning that it was going to be The Day.

It’s all about colours and how you look! It’s not easy to explain how to look but try to see the cubes. Dark blue is the inside of the cube, green is left side and turquoise/blue is right side. Cubes are in Lines and the light turquoise is the shadow of the cube.

If you turn it and look from the other side, the green is inside, turquoise is front/left side and blue is right side. Now there is also white cube which has light turquoise ‘bottom’ or shadow. Fun or what?!

hexagon cube

I like the blue to be inside of the cube, so I turned my blocks like this. It’s fun how many shapes there can be found with triangles …

… diamond, jewel, hexagon, cube …

hexagon cubes

This Project went on again by sections as the ‘Pic Nic on The Beach’ but of course this was much more simple. First I just made some parts and then started to measure how big I want this quilt to be and then added more triangles and white.

This is a baby quilt and measures about 32″ x 42″ with the border.

There are lots of pattern like this with many shapes and secondary patterns on. This is my first make and I love it! In the beginning I wasn’t sure about the colour combination, but now I really like it.

We used to Live more close to the airport … but not under the ‘highway’! Now they often pass over our heads …

air plane

… I don’t mind if they don’t make too much noise … it’s nice to think WHO comes, WHO goes, where they go … what hopes they have for their holidays … what memories they Carry home from their holidays … do they come back to stay … as I did!

Now have to decide how to quilt this one but First have to find space to baste it.

I’m joining my favourite linky parties – all the buttons are on my sidelist, just click on them to visit the blogs!

Thank you so much for stopping by and for your lovely comments! I wish you great week!

Nero: White was missing!

Vof vof! White makes the magic, at least here. She forgot to put white on her palet! All that drama last time … perhaps I have lost it … if I can’t create nice quilt anymore … and all that just because the white was missing!

Hex N More quilt project by Teje

This was on the wall yesterday evening, when we decided it was bed time. It may change still, like it often happens, but she’s quite happy and perhaps she just continues and doesn’t change much.

making diamonds

She’s not using the easy way … no, she wants to plan with fabrics and patches and make the whole design piece by piece. It’s fun but takes time. We had lunch brake and cooked …

After eating, I’m always so happy and full of energy to play …

And then with full speed to hexagons … piece by piece to make pairs …

Then figuring out what shape they should be to fill the place on the wall …

Cutting some pieces more to get big triangle …

… idea for a christmas table runner …

big triangle with hexagons

Now we shall make more jewel-triangles … but hey, guess what I saw …

Can you believe that there she/he is sitting next to my ball in no hurry to go any where …

I’m getting tired to chase them … just kidding! At this moment for some strange reason I just looked and didn’t say anything … perhaps I tried to find out how we can continue because the design wall is full. I have to make it bigger.

And then I think we shall make more little triangles … if your favourite fabric is coming to an end, it may be worth of using a moment to plan how to get most of it …

So here we are now … running well and enjoying each step …  this looks like a party to me!

Have a great weekend! I hope you have sun and fun!

Hugs from NERO!

Beginning new quilt!

Hi Friends! Good Month – can’t believe it’s already July! I found a good way to start this month – new quilt project!

wonky star block

Yesterday after my morning coffee and before going to work, I made this star. I picked the scraps just by instinct without any further plan, just what felt good for this one star.  Last few days I have been thinking a lot … and ended up to start a new quilt project.

wonky star block

Against my schedule, I made second star in the evening … after organizing first several hours my fabric stash. Getting rid of some old ‘so tiny scraps’ that you wouldn’t never even keep them … hmmm, no, those I kept still, but some other ‘ugly’ scraps I threw away. If and when I continue to make story-pillows I need every tiny piece because they may have just the colour I need to put a nose to a dog or a wing to bird or a suitcase for a travelling cat.

wonky star

Wonky star block looks fun and so different ‘in point’. Perhaps I put some stars like this.

new quilt project

One other evening, when I just passed my sewing place  … I picked some little triangles … and after a while I had several blocks which will be perfect to join my new project.

This quilt project is not busy to be finished but slow to be enjoyed – like the favourite  sweet which you like to eat slowly slowly to enjoy every bite and to make it last long. Unfortunately this time I didn’t have my favourite sweet, blueberry pie with ice cream!!!

I’m too busy to even try to make this quilt quickly. I haven’t made any plans for this quilt … if I wake up at night I may think what kind of blocks to make … during the day at work I ‘picture’ the blocks and fabrics in my thoughts … you know how often it’s  enough just to watch the project on your sewing table, to make you happier.

afternoon siesta

One day … some day … there will be enough blocks and enough time to gather them to a quilt which will be full of light, most likely sunshine … something that says  Good Morning – Have a Great Day!

Today this block made my day. Tomorrow it will be an other one. More about this project next time.

What makes you have a great start to your day?

Thank you for stopping by and for your wonderful and always appreciated comments!

Hello Dear Friends! Good Month to everyone! Did you get tricked? I almost did and we had a good laugh!

paper pieced octagons

Small octagons are all the time some where near to me … slow process as it’s ment to be … other wise I need to start new ‘carry with’ project.

Hey, look, there is something in the box …

Yesterday we had help to cut lots of grass around in the garden. Still there is enough to collect . Cats were fighting some where and Nero started to shout to them and Hanna got worried about all this – dear Hanna, don’t worry, let’s go to play …

Want to get a big kiss?! Nero had his favourite tennis ball in his mouth and the most loved red ball under his paw but then he just dropped them for the photo. Hanna is not so grazy about ball game but sometimes we play quite well and she enjoys that.

paper pieced octagons

There they are happy octagons in my grandfather’s paint box … some octagons have been sewn together already …

I like to baste some and then sew some. I don’t think I could baste hundreds of octagons and then start to sew them. For me this project is good because I don’t have any plan or pattern. I just make what I feel in that moment.

I need pink fabric! and flower fabric! and and and … but I have to work with blue and beige …

These are going to be the ‘pair’ quilt. I made the ‘Stars and Shirts’ for our bed and because I can’t make very big quilt, I decided to make a pair. The other one is with big stars and I think this pattern is great choise for the second quilt. Fabrics are exactly the same and both patterns have hexagons even in different way.

When I made ‘Orange Stones’ quilt, I found the pattern from Julie at ‘Jaybird Quilts’. That was a wonderful pattern and quick and easy. Julie has made fantastic tutorial for hexagons and there are many ways how to mix your pieces and get different look. From then I had this one in my mind – how you can call these … ‘swirrels’? tell me if you have a good word!

Nero has just amazing fur now; it’s so long and there is a lot! I try not to think that soon it fells all over … and Hanna will leave enough fur also. But till then I just love to see how beautiful they both are! Now unfortunately work and cleaning is waiting for me, but I’ll manage thinking that some little octagons are waiting for me … and the almost finished knitted jacket (not much missing anymore) … and of course my sweet puppies!

Remember that our SUNGLASSES GIVE AWAY is open till 14th of April, if you haven’t entered yet!!!

Jane from ‘Jane’s Journal’ is having a give away and you can win a beautiful necklace!!!

Faith from ‘Fresh Lemons Quilts’ is having a fantastic give away for fabrics!!!

If you like paper piecing, ‘Quiet Play’ has a new sewing themed block ‘Snip It’!

I’m linking at ‘Fabric Tuesday’, ‘Sew Cute Tuesday’, ‘Linky Tuesday’ and ‘W.i.P wednesday’

Thank you for your visit – wish I could have offered coffee and cinnamon buns! not that I have made any, but lovely thought. If you ever come I promise to bake!!! I guess I have to go now … when I come back there may be some sweet messages from you waiting for me … that in my mind to the work!
