Read all the post in my new blog.  Thank you!

I met my quilter friend!

Hi! When I was in Finland I met one Finnish quilter!

metal frame purse

You may think, okey that’s great and sure you had fun. Yes we did, but it was much more than that because first time I was able to speak ‘nose to nose’ with a quilter and in my own language. Also for the first time I was looking fabrics with a quilter. You know how fun it is to show and say ‘oh look this’ ‘ah look this’ ‘did you see this’ ‘ what you take’ ‘shall I take this’ etc etc !!!

The quilter I met is Leena from ‘Tilkkutie’. We know each others some time through our blogs but had never met. During my earlier trip to Finland we didn’t manage to meet but this time we decided that some where we shall meet.

Finally we met in my town because she had sewing ‘business’ there. I’m sure she will tell about that soon. So we met in a sewing shop. What would be better place to get to know each others! We were speaking, laughing and …

I think it’s all here…hmmm not all but all I bought with my friend. Blue light in these photos is like winter in Finland but it’s in the shadow on the sunny balcony at home.

You can imagine how I was like a child in a candy shop … hard to decide what to take. Fortunately I was well prepared for my shopping therapy …

Then we went for a late lunch and continued talking and laughing. Leena makes beautiful quilts etc. and I enjoy reading her posts because she’s a great, fun writer. ‘Tilkkutie’ (=patch road) is in Finnish but even you don’t speak Finnish, it’s worth of seeing beautiful photos of her quilts and from Finland. Leena gave me this beautiful purse …

She had picked so cute fabrics and colours. I love how this double, metal frame purse has two colours inside, green and turquoise like the spools outside. I can’t hide this yet in my bag so it will be decoration with some big spools in my sewing room … which I’m just turning all around and cleaning. Soon I shall give you a tour in my re-fixed sewing studio.

Hanna picked these from our morning walk yesterday …

Let’s see what we find today. And then I shall finish my sewing room to continue the ‘Dog Gone Cute’ project.

I’m linking at Molli Sparkles’ Sunday Stash, join the party!

Thank you Leena for that special day and beautiful purse! Thank you all for reading my blog and sharing our passion for fabrics!

Have a great day and enjoy small autumn things!

Fabrics, cows and cars from Finland

Hi friends! I know you wait to see what fabrics I’m shopping while visiting my home country Finland. Here comes the first bundles…

These are pieces from the ‘finds’ box where you can find really great pieces in good price…or not so many. It seems to be the time that everyone starts to quilt and sew more, so I didn’t find a lot, but for these I’m really happy… and for these …

Cows were not a piece and I took one metre…I see some happy cows on a green field…

cows on a field

This fabric was a huge piece …

Some ideas with white are already in my thoughts. And then the following…big piece too … I see the areas separate, yellow, green …

And the cars will be cut perhaps for an applique project …

On my trip to Loviisa, small town on the south coast, I was happy to see this cutie …

old car

Loviisa is a beautiful, small town were is still lots of cute, old, wooden houses, small harbour …

The weather has been fantastic, sunny and quite warm!

sun flower field

Sorry that my new fabrics are not ironed, but I’m on holidays!

Following fabric would make great bags and pouches as it is hevier…or place mats …

Tomorrow I’m heading to an other fabric shop… wish me luck!

I’m linking with Molli Sparkles’ Sunday Stash:

Today it’s changing from sunny to cloudy and then back again … more beautiful photos from my sunny trip to Loviisa, in an other post.
Thank you very much for stopping by and for your lovely comments!

Nero’s Sunday Stash

Vof vof friends! Nero here and I’m so happy to see you! I feel really hot so I’m just playing inside with my fabrics. Today I took these special fabrics out from the self where I have hidden them from the strong sunlight.

nero's sunday stash

These are very special fabrics because they are a present from dear friends! Thank you again so much!

So beautiful and good quality fabrics from the ‘Stoff & Stil.

Colours are gorgeus and the prints so cute and also different than in any other fabrics I have. Often we look and buy same kind of fabrics, like we stuck to one kind of style and that’s why it’s fantastic to get fabrics picked by some one else.

These could be easily mixed with many other fabrics but I like to keep bundles together. At least for the first project. Later the scraps may be used with other fabrics. I think these lovely grey prints would be beautiful with grey solids from Kona or Oakshott.

They are all timeless as the label says! Today when playing with these, I was thinking what pattern would be nice for these. First that came to my mind was ‘Churn Dash’. It’s one of the traditional quilt blocks that is in my ‘want to make one day’ list and these fabrics would be great for that. HERE is a link for one of my favourite quilts made with that pattern by Lolly Quiltz. Very different colours but you can see the pattern and I’m sure you agree that these fabrics would show beautifully in that pattern.

Hard to pick any favourite but this one I really love!  But hey! there is more …

Aren’t these just amazing! I love blue and my stash is always missing blue fabrics so these are so perfect and the flying birds are most beautiful! They came with that adorable paper!

Hmmm, would you like to see me, too, I’m here …

Sooooo, want to see more fabric stuff?  From the local shop I found some basics …

And my table is full of piles to pick fabrics for a new project …. aaah, but I can’t show them yet. It is secret project!

The latest other secret project is finished and I can show it soon. Just need the time to prepare the post(s). It was a special, important and most fun project, so it deserves lots of photos and details. To give you a small hint, I used several patterns from Kristy. Kristy from ‘Quiet Play’ makes best paper piecing patterns and now she has a sale – 30 % until 16th of August!  Hop over to her SHOP and guess what geometric patterns I used. She has also super ‘alphabets’ and ‘numbers’ patterns!

Last week I enjoyed (in fact she because I can’t go to the shop) the lunch in the shop with the new quilting magazine! Oh it’s always so nice to have a new magazine and especially with quilting, sewing and fabrics!

Because this is Sunday Stash post, I don’t mix here any projects. But I have to tell you that yesterday I made something relly cool, having a phrase: ‘celebrating life’ in my mind! Soon more about that!

new fabrics

I’m off to do some boring ironing and then perhaps short walk or/and brushing outside. I hope you have some fabulous fabrics to play with!

Lots of furry hugs and big kisses!

Hello Dear Friends! I hope you are fine! These last days I have been nominated by several blog friends for the ‘One Lovely Blog’ award. Thank you so much! I do appreciate and I’m happy to see that you enjoy your visit in my blog!

Thank you ‘Pink Doxies’, ‘Charly & Ben’s Crafty Corner’ and ‘Val’s Quilting Studio’, for nominating my blog! You would be in my ‘list’ if you hadn’t already received this award!

I think best way to celebrate this award and to thank you for being there, reading my blog and writing so lovely comments, is to have lovely fabric give away!

give away bundle

I picked these Fabrics from my stash. They are all my favourites, random size pieces + two little pieces with Moomins.

Now I’m supposed to tell you 7 things about me, that you might not know:

1. I started my First sewing business when I was 11 years. With my girlfriend we started to make custom order hats. We couldn’t find a cap with long peak, so we decided to make them on our own. Then we got orders from family/relatives to make their favourite hats.

2. My First Paper piecing Project was ‘Fantasy Forest’ quilt. I had never tried Paper piecing because it just felt too difficult, complicated and I thought that huzzling with all the papers and details doesn’t feel very much fun and creative. How wrong I was! When I saw the First block: woodpecker for the Forest QAL, I knew that I have to make and finally I made most of the blocks and the whole quilt!

3. I’m perfectionist in many things but not in quilting. I love to quilt and make patchwork! That’s fun and creative process for me and I just want to enjoy it every minute, not thinking mistakes or if each seam is in point. I don’t use ripper very often.

4. I had to come to this age to learn to boil eggs! Until now, what ever trick I made, they just couldn’t be shelled well. One day this winter just happened that hb said: let them boil well! Hmmm, does that mean the water should boil strongly? But I thought then the eggs will brake? Okey, I’ll try. And now I boil them strong and they jump up and down and no problem with ‘cleaning’!

5. When I was young my first summer job was in a dog kennel. Wonderful summer, hard work, amazing dogs and unfortunately even one very bad dog fight (can’t ever forget that). We were there with the same friend that we had the hat-business.

 6. When I was young I was riding, in ballet school, playing piano and violin, had even cuitar – now I prefer silence to concentrate to my quilting and sewing plans!

7. Often things change very quickly in our life. We may plan something but if that doesn’t work, next week we have already new plans. In august 2010 I was thinking that how the people WHO blog, have any time to sew? ‘I couldn’t find time for blogging’! 15th of same August I started my blog (one of the best decisions I have made). I made the decision while swimming because the name: ‘Nero’s Post and Patch’ came to my mind. I thought that if I don’t have enough sewing stories, Nero can help me and write his posts. If I start to do something I really like, I’m very stubborn. I stayed day and night, weeks,  learning to fix everything on my own.

The list for the blogs I want to nominate would be very long. Some of them have been nominated with this award already. So here are some of the Lovely Blogs I enjoy reading (in random order):

Carla’s  “Grace and Favour”

Lucy’s “Charm about You”

Susan’s “Canadian Abroad”

Helen’s “Helen Philipps”

Sarah Elizabeth’s “{No} Hats in the House”

Terri’s “Terri’s Notebook”

Anneli’s “Chromatobalomata”

Vicky’s “Veni Vidi Vicky”

Louise’s “Gephart 836”

Christine’s “Quilting Stories”

Enjoy reading these lovely, delicious blogs!

Enter by leaving a comment on this post and aswering this question: if you should choose, would you give up quilting or make-up? If this is too hard, tell me your favourite colour couple.

Second chance for followers – leave second comment telling me how you follow.

Give away is open to everyone and until 14th of June 2015. Then I hope Nero and Hanna will help me to pick the winner.

Once again, here they are waiting just for you!

Good Luck! I’m looking for to read your answers! I leave you now to make the difficult decision (if you not a quilter, then it’s easy!). Have a wonderful day! Thank you for reading my blog and for the sweet comments you write!

Design wall on Thursday

Hi dear Friends! Thank you so much for all your lovely comments! I’m so happy you like and follow my scandinavian Project. This morning my design wall looks like this …

scandinavian quilt project

I like to see in the mornings the light-shapes that still closed shutters create. Do you think I could quilt snow on this quilt?

Here is a small trick now as the quilt will be bigger than my design wall. The upper part which is now ready, is half under the lower part. I started to think even myself, how this looks so strange in this photo?!

scandinavian quilt on design wall

I had made stright decision not to add any orange/yellow/Red to this quilt. Then finally the black cloud over my head turned to grey and I was ready to make sun to my quilt. But it was not ment to happen as I hadn’t washed those colours. So this will be pale, winter scene without sun and perhaps it will snow over this quilt.

new fabrics

Yesterday the cloud was finally white again … I received the ‘sky’ for my Hillside Houses quilt. Most likely that has to wait until autumn but I enjoy having it in my mind. Also those solids are for those houses.

blue sky white clouds

Today finally sky is blue again and clouds are white. Last days weather was strange here. We had thunder and even rain with African dust, so you can imagine how the Windows look now …

Sunset from my bed, through my african dusty window.

Thank you for stopping by! I have enjoyed catching up with you and hope to see you soon! As you may have wondered, I took ten days off to make a quilt … that’s what quilter does when there is nothing else she can do. Thanks to You, quilting and my fabric stash: I’m ready to start all over again.

I have been nominated by several friends with ‘One Lovely Blog’ award and I’m preparing ‘my list’s’ with something else.

Have a wonderful day!

New Scandinavian quilt project

Hi Dear Friends! I have a NEW quilt in process! After making some space to my sewing room, I’m feeling a little bit better while starting again from “a clean table”.

my sewing room

Before starting I had to shower my NEW Fabrics. But before braking these cute bundles, I took few last shoots …

new fabrics

Fabric details:

Solids: ‘Scandinavia’ from Oakshott Fabrics (give away win from Leanne ‘She can Quilt’)

Prints: ‘Notting Hill’ from ring a roses by Gunther (give away win from Annett at ‘Knetty Craft’)

Light demin: present from Judith at ‘Just Jude’

And then off we go to the shower! And after that out for a sunbath …

Oakshott Fabrics are woven with two different colours of threads and look how the colour change when are wet!

I’m so happy that I got these two fabric bundles in same time – thank you again! Oakshott solids are gorgeus but I didn’t have any idea what Special I could make with them. I haven’t used much solids yet and also these beautiful light colours are different than my usual palet. When I looked these bundles together I realized that they match perfectly!

Once again seems to be that everything happens for some meaning … in a mood I am now, I couldn’t work with energy, bright, happy fabrics, so this calm, lightful, almost low volume collection is just what I need now. When looking for something else to add to this quilt, my eye picked the Honeycomb bundle that I had purchased while ago. I chose colours to match and left out orange/red/pink.

I had in my mind to use some low volumes for the background and made last evening test blocks …

retangle triangles

Looking for ideas from my Pinterest Board: ‘Quilt Inspiration’, I started to lean to triangles (once again, it’s my favourite quilting shape). As I don’t want to make a repeating pattern but some how different kind/size blocks, I thought these retangle triangles would be great. And I do like them a lot, but I didn’t enjoy making them.

retangle triangles

Other question is if I like the low volume for background? When leaving it like this at night, I wasn’t excited at all. Then at night I was thinking, once again, white is missing! Could you make a Scandinavian quilt without snow?! So in the morning I felt better because I knew how to continue: follow my instinct! When ever I don’t do that, it’s a big mistake!

triangle blocks

So white is on the table! From the prints I cut as big squares as possible by the meaning to get the most of these Special Fabrics. I shall make different kind of triangle blocks in different sizes. Most likely I shall use also those low volumes.

triangle blocks

Some names in my mind: Scandic Scene, Scandinavian Days, Scandinavian Scale

And just for fun …
